Sacraments
A sacrament is a sacred action, instituted by Christ and entrusted to the Church, which brings us closer to God and assists us in our spiritual and holy growth. Through the sacrements, divine life is bestowed upon us.
Baptism
Baptism incorporates us with Christ and forms us into God's people. It is the first sacrament of initiation. Baptism makes us the dwelling place of the most Blessed Trinity and makes each of us a holy temple. The Catholic Church baptizes people of all age--from infants to adults.
It is requested that the family who has a member to be baptized be a registered family at St. Nicholas for a minimum of one month prior to the sacrament being received. No formal classes are held to prepare for baptizm but Father will schedule a meeting with the family prior to the baptismal date. Baptisms may be held during mass, before mass or at any other time that is convenient for everyone involved. Baptisms are not scheduled on major holidays or late Sunday afternoons or evenings.
Eucharist
The Sunday celebration of the Eucharist is the “source and summit” for our lives as Christians. Preparing children to come to the table of the Lord for the first time is a significant moment in their lives and the life of the community.
First Communion - 2nd Grade
Adequate preparation will also support their spiritual growth and make it clear that as they are nourished by the Eucharist, they are called to feed and serve others around them. Children must be baptized before beginning preparation for this sacrament. A copy of your child’s baptism certificate will be needed if not baptized at St Nicholas.
Reconciliation
The sacrament of Penance (commonly called confession or Reconciliation) is the method given by Christ to the Catholic Church by which individual men and women may confess sins committed after baptism and have them absolved by a priest.
Reconciliation is available 20 minutes before Tuesday thru Saturday morning mass, or by appointment and Saturdays 3:30 pm to 4:45 pm.
Confirmation
Confirmation is one of the three sacraments of initiation. It is another step in the life long process of journeying with one another toward God. Youth in the 10th grade and older are invited to prepare for this sacrament at St. Nicholas, along with the support of their family and a sponsor. Because confirmation is not “graduation” or completion of faith formation, all students are expected to receive continuous religious instruction prior to, during, and following the reception of this sacrament.
Marriage
Like all sacraments, the preparation for, and celebration of the sacrament of Marriage is grounded in the life and ministry of the parish. As primary ministers of the sacrament, the couple benefits from the experience and support of the community. At the same time, the couple’s love for each other gives the community a glimpse of Christ’s love for the Church, and thus is a blessing and support to the parish.
Couples wishing to get married at St. Nicholas should be registered members of our parish or their families should be registered members. The actual marriage preparation begins a minimum of six months before a couple's wedding date.
Holy Orders
Holy Orders is the sacrament by which men are ordained to be of service to the Church as priests, deacons or bishops. While all of the baptized are 'ordained' to a life of service and commitment to Jesus Christ, the Church calls upon some of its members to serve the community in a different way through the Sacrament of ministerial priesthood. The ordained have a unique role within the Catholic community.

Anointing of the Sick
The Sacrament of Anointing is extended to those who are experiencing physical, emotional or spiritual challenge. In this sacrament the priest lays hands on the one requesting healing, prays over them in the faith of the Church, and anoints them with oil blessed by the bishop. The sacrament is celebrated with individuals upon request.
